The outer ring has a single spherical raceway, thus allowing the inner ring and rollers to freely compensate for angular errors due to inaccurate machine components or due to elastic deflection of the shaft or housing under loads. As a result of the line contact, a large number of rollers, and the substantial contact angle, these bearings have large radial and thrust load capacity.
