A highly porous, granular form of aluminium oxide having preferential adsorptive capacity for moisture and odor contained in gases and some liquids. When saturated, it can be regenerated by heat. The cycle of adsorption and reactivation can be repeated many times. Used as a catalyst or carrier in chromatography, and in water purification.
