A colourless or slightly yellow, fuming, pungent liquid. A strong, highly corrosive acid which is highly toxic by ingestion and inhalation and is a strong irritant to the eyes and skin. Used for the removal of boiler scale, for picking and metal cleaning, industrial acidizing, general cleaning, and as a laboratory reagent.
