Unstable in air unless mixed with sodium hydroxide. Strong oxidizing agent, usually stored and used in solution, disagreeable, sweetish odor and pale greenish colour. Soluble in cold water. Hazard: Fire risk in contact with organic materials. Toxic by ingestion, strong irritant to tissue. Uses: Bleaching paper, pulp, textiles, etc. Water purification, fungicide, reagent, germicide.
