DSC is a technique using digital codes which enables a radio station to establish contact with, and transfer information to another station or group of stations complying with the relevant recommendations of the International Radio Consultative Committee. Required by the 1974 SOLAS regulation. The 1988 amendment to Regulation 7 requires the installation of one VHF receiver and Regulation 10 requires the installation of an MF receiver for maintaining a continuous DSC watch.
